Event: FISITA World Congress 14-16 September 2021 online
Name: Naoki Toyama
Company: Honda Motor
Presentation Title: F2020-MCF-014 Development of Early-stage Performance Verification Method for Low-frequency Noise in Electric-powered Vehicle Batteries
Please introduce yourself briefly…
Since I joined, I have been involved for more than 10 years in vibration and noise development at Honda.
Currently, I am working on improving the development efficiency of electric vehicles, and I am working on front loading of noise and vibration related to electric vehicles.
What you will talk about at this year’s FISITA World Congress?
As one of the improvements in the noise generation efficiency of electric vehicles, we will present the research theme of improving the noise generation efficiency of low-frequency sound generated from high-voltage batteries. A method for evaluating the activation sound of high-voltage batteries on a standalone unit basis was created, and a method was created for verifying the required performance of high-voltage batteries and their internal parts by battery installation location. Combining FEM and the present method in the initial stages of high-voltage battery design makes it possible to predict sound under demanding conditions for internal parts of the battery, and the usefulness of this method was successfully confirmed.
What benefits will participants gain from your presentation?
You can learn about some of Honda's efforts to popularize electric vehicles.
Which trends do you consider as the most important for your domain of research and your geographical region?
Research on carbon-neutral efforts is an urgent theme for the automotive industry.
Various issues arise when providing electric vehicles to customers at a reasonable price
What challenges do these trends present?
Various issues arise when providing electric vehicles to customers at a reasonable price (cost, weight, electricity cost, marketability, etc.)
And what opportunities do these trends offer?
I think that various research presentation opportunities will be created for each approach to solve the problem.

About the FISITA World Congress
Since 1947, the FISITA World Congress has been the leading international meeting place for industry experts, engineers and executives to exchange ideas and discuss the trends that drive the automotive industry forward. The theme for the 38th FISITA World Congress is 'From automobile to mobility. New roles. New challenges' and it will take place 14-16 September 2021, with the opportunity for the global audience to join virtually available for the first time. Registration is now open, with the Early Bird and special registration rates available until 31 August 2021.
Content from the 2020 FISITA Web Congress is available within the FISITA Technical Library, while material from previous Congress events back to 1998 is available in the FISITA Store. By the time of this year’s Congress, all the content will be available within the FISITA Technical Library, with free access provided to FISITA members.
