Presentation Title: F2020-EPV-026 The Extension of Opportunities of Dual Fuel Diesel-Hydrogen Engine by Usage of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil
Please introduce yourself briefly…
I am a researcher and Ph.D student at Josef Bozek Research Centre for Vehicles of Sustainable Mobility at CTU in Prague. I focused primarily on experiments with the internal combustion engine and subsequent analysis of emissions and combustion.
What you will talk about at this year’s FISITA World Congress?
The dual fuel diesel-hydrogen concept of compression ignition engine appears to be able to meet the CO2 requirements that will apply after 2030. However, the combustion of hydrogen is limited at low loads by poor ignitability. The presented work analyses the potential of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) to improve the combustion quality of the mentioned concept at low loads and thereby further reduces CO2 emissions.
What benefits will participants gain from your presentation?
The audience will gain awareness about the concept enabling the use of the internal combustion engine (ICE) in vehicles even after the year 2030 and about the possibility of its further improvement in the reduction of the carbon footprint.
Which trends do you consider as the most important for your domain of research and your geographical region?
Further development of legislation on greenhouse gas emissions from transport greatly affects the development of ICE. It is essential to start assessing a greenhouse gas emission as the cradle-to-grave while the contemporary approach assesses only tail pipe emissions.
It is essential to start assessing a greenhouse gas emission as the cradle-to-grave while the contemporary approach assesses only tail pipe emissions.
What challenges do these trends present?
To keep internal combustion engines competitive despite unilateral contemporary legislation and at the same time to focus on decreasing a real carbon footprint.
And what opportunities do these trends offer?
Discover and develop alternative fuels and combustion concepts.

About the FISITA World Congress
Since 1947, the FISITA World Congress has been the leading international meeting place for industry experts, engineers and executives to exchange ideas and discuss the trends that drive the automotive industry forward. The theme for the 38th FISITA World Congress is 'From automobile to mobility. New roles. New challenges' and it will take place 14-16 September 2021, with the opportunity for the global audience to join virtually available for the first time. Registration is now open, with the Early Bird and special registration rates available until 31 August 2021.
Content from the 2020 FISITA Web Congress is available within the FISITA Technical Library, while material from previous Congress events back to 1998 is available in the FISITA Store. By the time of this year’s Congress, all the content will be available within the FISITA Technical Library, with free access provided to FISITA members.
Partner with us
The FISITA World Congress is one of the most important and prestigious gatherings of mobility engineers and executives in the automotive and mobility calendar. We can offer a number of exceptional promotion opportunities for organisations, associations and companies enabling them to meet their targeted audience and interact with the key decision-makers in and around FISITA 2021.
There are many opportunities to partner with us at the upcoming Congress.
