Congress: Predicting vehicle cabin noise by analysing motor vibration

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

Event: FISITA World Congress 14-16 September 2021 online

Name: Toshihiro Saito, Chief Engineer

Company: Honda R&D Co., Ltd.

Presentation Title: F2020-MCF-019 Modal analysis of Structural Vibration for Electric-drive Motor built in Transmission

Please introduce yourself briefly…

In 1986, I graduated a Master course of mechanical engineering in Waseda University. My responsibility in Honda is to develop methodology and environment of CAE application for transmission durability, power efficiency and NVH. I have been working for dynamics of Metal pushing V-belt CVT and Toroidal IVT (Infinitely Variable Transmission). I have focused on the rheological friction identification of traction fluid depending on contact pressure, slip velocity and temperature on traction contact surface. Recent 4 years, I'm getting involved in Electric-drive motor division to develop CAE integrated environment on CATIA V6 for designers.

What you will talk about at this year’s FISITA World Congress?

Transfer path analysis indicated high frequency cabin noise between 4 kHz and 5 kHz will be occasionally caused by 0th-order breathing mode of motor vibration inside transmission case.

Modal analysis of structural vibration model for simulating motor stator with wire coils was created including material anisotropy of laminated steel sheets and small sliding contact behaviour.

Motor vibration built in transmission case by tightening bolts can be predicted, these analyses made it possible to reduce vehicle cabin noise.

What benefits will participants gain from your presentation?

Experimental modal analysis using small inertia electromagnetic shaker brought you higher accuracy TRF up to 5 KHz. And how to create the interaction model between motor stator and wire coils can be suggested.

Which trends do you consider as the most important for your domain of research and your geographical region and what challenges and opportunities do they present?

Main Electric-vehicle technologies would be Batteries, Power-electronics and Motor in my domain of research.

These technologies focus on High-power, Compactness and High-efficiency. The challenge would be to manage those temperatures under accurate control in higher rotational speed range.

About the FISITA World Congress

Since 1947, the FISITA World Congress has been the leading international meeting place for industry experts, engineers and executives to exchange ideas and discuss the trends that drive the automotive industry forward. The theme for the 38th FISITA World Congress is 'From automobile to mobility. New roles. New challenges' and it will take place 14-16 September 2021, with the opportunity for the global audience to join virtually available for the first time. Registration is now open, with the Early Bird and special registration rates available until 31 August 2021.

Content from the 2020 FISITA Web Congress is available within the FISITA Technical Library, while material from previous Congress events back to 1998 is available in the FISITA Store. By the time of this year’s Congress, all the content will be available within the FISITA Technical Library, with free access provided to FISITA members.

Partner with us

The FISITA World Congress is one of the most important and prestigious gatherings of mobility engineers and executives in the automotive and mobility calendar. We can offer a number of exceptional promotion opportunities for organisations, associations and companies enabling them to meet their targeted audience and interact with the key decision-makers in and around FISITA 2021.

There are many opportunities to partner with us at the upcoming Congress.
