Name: Denis Emorine

Company: ALSTOM

Presentation Title: Railway brake system in Nordic countries: application in Sweden's challenges and constrains (EB2021-MFM-003)

Session: Intelligent Braking and Braking Control (Rail), Tuesday 18th May 2021, 14:00 - 15:40 (Central European Time CEST)

What do you find most interesting about the topic of your presentation?

The cold, ice effects on the brake system in Nordic countries, that isn’t obvious, and show that experience is key.

When discussing this topic with industry peers, what question are you most frequently asked? How do you answer it?

Did we have issue with MTB?

No problem serial failure given from the operator. Nevertheless, the MTB weren’t considered in the brake performance for signalling…

Did we have issue with brake performance under such conditions?

We had only in case of significant icing leading to “block” brake calipers. Not only blocked open, but blocked closed / applied.

Who do you think will be most interested in your presentation, and who would you most like to ask questions about it?

Other car builder experience and solutions in similar conditions.

Also operator care/warn in similar conditions.

Finally, it would also be interesting to have such presentation for other specific climatic conditions: hot humid, hot dry with sand…

What specific topics or technology are you hoping to see in other presentations or in the exhibition?

If any Return of Experience improvements from any brake supplier could be available, this would be great in order to connect with them and potentially work together in the future.

About Denis Emorine.

My name is Denis Emorine. I am 41 years old and living since more than 8 years as expatriate in Germany, married with an Italian wife and having one wonderful kid.

After getting my French engineer diploma, I started in several small railway company, as technical project responsible for several specific maintenance railway machines.

It was about

- compact catenary maintenance railroad machine with 12 wheels,

- negative nacelles wagons for maintenance under bridges,

- high efficient weeding coaches,

- Winding and unwinding catenary wagons,

- etc…

In such companies, you have to deal with all the steps, from tender conception until training with the customer: that was the best school!!

After 7 years then I joined the transportation part of the railway by joining Faiveley Transport (now WABTEC) in Amiens (France) as brake system engineer.

I worked on Chinese locomotive (DELC, ZELC), RGV2N2, REGIOLIS, Regio2N and for the Wheel Slide Protection.

In 2013 I joined ALSTOM Transport Deutschland in Salzgitter.

I am today Senior Expert Brake and Domain Leader Train system Propulsion (Traction & Brake system) with 17 System engineer in direct reporting.
