Presentation Title: Development of a Small-Scale Test Bench for Investigating the Tribology and Emission Behaviour of Novel Brake Friction Couples (EB2021-STP-002)
Session: Brake Emission Microscopic Level, Thursday 20th May 2021, 11:30 - 13:10 (Central European Time - CEST)
What do you find most interesting about the topic of your presentation?
Above all, I find the interplay of the different subject areas that come together for this topic very interesting and I’m very excited about the future output from this work.
When discussing this topic with industry peers, what question are you most frequently asked? How do you answer it?
Most people are interested in why the airspeed is set to the specified value and if this is to match any specific brake system temperatures.
The airspeed is currently set for sampling particulate matter under isokinetic conditions since the measurement equipment for this was already available from another project. The first experiments will show whether the airspeed must be adjusted for the brake system to meet specific temperatures during operation.
Who do you think will be most interested in your presentation, and who would you most like to ask questions about it?
I think anyone with an interest in testing and simulation will find the presentation interesting. The institute of Professor Ostermeyer probably has one of the most sophisticated small-scale test benches so he is the first one I can think of that I would like to ask questions.
What specific topics or technology are you hoping to see in other presentations or in the exhibition?
I’m especially looking forward to the topics presented in the sessions Environmentally Friendly Formulations and Advanced Coatings for Brake Components this year.

About Fabian Limmer
Fabian Limmer is a PhD student at the University of Leeds where he is studying the tribology of novel automotive brake friction materials.
Fabian studied mechanical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Aachen in Germany.
He finished his undergraduate studies including a bachelor thesis at Reishauer in Zürich/Switzerland focussing on the tribology of grinding processes.
He then continued with his post-graduate studies specializing in product development and finished his studies with a master thesis at Robert Bosch in Abstatt/Germany studying the NVH behaviour of thermoplastic gears.
