Brake Actuation and Foundation Trends Driven by Electrification and Autonomous Driving

Name: Patricio Barbale

Company: IHS Markit

Presentation Title: Brake Actuation and Foundation trends driven by Electrification and Autonomous Driving (EB2021-IBC-008)

Session: Posters, Monday 17 May 2021, 17:30 - 19:30 (Central European Summer Time - CEST)

What do you find most interesting about the topic of your presentation?

The automotive world is changing fast due to electrification and autonomous driving. It is very interesting how all the components are changing to adapt to these new requirements. In this case we are seeing the increasing penetration of Electro-hydraulic systems, going to the complete brake by wire system.

When discussing this topic with industry peers, what question are you most frequently asked? How do you answer it?

The most asked question is about the correlation between brake systems and type of vehicle (electric vehicle or autonomous vehicle). I answer that there is a strict correlation between the electro-hydraulic brake system and electric vehicles, because these vehicles need a system that allows a better energy recuperation. Moreover there could be a link between electro-mechanical brakes and autonomous driving, we are not seeing yet, because is too early.

Who do you think will be most interested in your presentation, and who would you most like to ask questions about it?

Both OEMs and Suppliers in this market will be interesting in seeing the forecasts about brake systems. As I said, the world is changing fast and it is very important for all the players in this market to adapt quickly to these changes.

What specific topics or technology are you hoping to see in other presentations or in the exhibition?

I would like to see how OEMs will use the degrees of freedom they have with the new systems to find new solutions in the car configuration. I mean like different configuration of the disc and drum brakes, new possibilities for the interior design of the steering wheel.
