I am so grateful to FISITA

We recently caught up with Pawan Seshadri who joined us at EuroBrake 2019 as part of the EuroBrake Student Opportunities Programme (ESOP) to hear about the support Pawan received during and after the event, and how these positive experiences have helped his motivation to join the international mobility industry and further his academic studies.

Pawan has been offered admission at EIT Urban Mobility School for the MS program in Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions along with a scholarship - it is a dual degree programme, first year of study will be at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona and the second year of study will be at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.

"I can't find words to express how impactful EuroBrake experience was to my career. I am so grateful to FISITA. Thank you!"

FISITA is dedicated to supporting the next generation of mobility engineers and facilitating lifelong learning for all engineers. As part of this initiative we deliver a Student Opportunities Programme at every event each year, whether it's physical or virtual.

You were selected to attend ESOP, how did that experience help your aspirations for studying engineering and entering the mobility industry?

When I was unguided and uncertain about my future, I got the opportunity to attend EuroBrake in Germany through ESOP. Looking at fellow students who are as enthusiastic about automotive technology and the mobility sector, I got motivated to continue my path in this industry. Interacting with technical experts, industry leaders and the members at FISITA helped me gain a new perspective on the future of mobility.

How has your involvement with FISITA helped you make contacts and network?

With my involvement with FISITA, I was able to grow my professional network and get in touch with automotive industry experts from the UK and Europe. It also helped me grow my connections within the SAE India community and thus, among Indian automotive start-ups which helped me get employed easily.

At the moment, what do you see as the key challenges and opportunities for students keen to enter the mobility industry?

Research and Development in the mobility industry are becoming more interdisciplinary. A student's university curriculum on a specific major may not make him/her sufficiently skilful to be employed in the mobility industry. Students are generally expected to have performed projects which are interdisciplinary. This is a key challenge in entering the mobility industry. This can also be seen as an opportunity for students with interdisciplinary knowledge who can get employed easily.

In three words, how would you describe the mobility engineering industry?

Pushing towards sustainability.

How was your work/studies been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic? (did you work from home/remotely, did your projects and outcomes change etc.?)

Initially, COVID lockdown was helpful for me as I got more than enough time to finish my research paper. Since my research was simulation-based, I was able to do it remotely with my team and successfully publish it this year. After my graduation last year, I was able to secure 2 different jobs as a Design Engineer and remotely work from home. Although it was hard at first, I got used to working remotely. In one of the jobs, I successfully developed two e-bike models which are going to be released soon in the UK and Europe.
