A team of student engineers from Sophia University in Japan have won the first FISITA Formula SAE World Cup competition held at the Ecopa Ogasayama Sports Park in Fukuroi City, Japan from 13 – 16 September 2006.
The Sophia students beat 49 other teams from universities in Japan and beyond to claim the winner’s trophy and prize money of EUR 1,000 at the event which was held alongside the 4th Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan.
The awards were presented by FISITA President Elect, Dr. Akihiko Saito at a ceremony on 16 September.
Results:
1st prize (overall championship) – Sophia University (Japan)
2nd prize – Nagoya University (Japan)
3rd prize – University of Michigan- Ann Arbor (USA)
Sophia University will now be invited to participate in the 2nd FISITA Formula SAE World Cup, to be held at Formula Student in the UK in 2007. The team will also qualify for sponsorship from FISITA of up to EUR 10,000 to take part in that competition.
The FISITA Formula SAE World Cup brings together the winning teams from the US, UK, Japanese and Australian student formula competitions to compete against one another at the same event. The rules are based on those of SAE International’s Formula SAE®
